How does your work play a part in Beyond’s model of helping clients MOVE THROUGH LIFE?
Nat: As an Exercise Physiologist, I am passionate about providing patients with an appropriate avenue to participate in an exercise program for chronic conditions or rehabilitation from injuries or surgeries. We help patients move through life by collaboratively working with each patient to create a tailored exercise and behavior change program that considers the patient’s current health, medical and exercise history, personal goals and their interests and motivations. Programs may include strength, aerobic, and balance exercises, as well as collaboration with other Beyond practitioners for truly individualized health care to help patients move through every stage of life.
Amber: I help my clients reach their goals through motivating individualised and challenging clinical Pilates exercise. Their goals are varied, some simply want to live without pain, others are preparing to take on the biggest physical challenge of their lives.
What inspired you to do this type of work?
Nat: I’ve always had a passion for participating in sport from a young age and interest in learning about the human body and how it functions. Tied in with an interest in psychology and interacting with people, working as an Exercise Physiologist seemed like the most fitting avenue to pursue for holistic health care. Movement makes you feel good and if you can move and smile too, then you have a perfect combination for better health outcomes.
Amber: I enjoy teaching clients about their bodies so they can be responsible for their own recovery. I love that I can have such an impact in changing someone’s day or week for the better.
What is best part of your job?
Nat: Seeing patients learn more about their own capabilities and strengths to move, enjoy life and achieve their goals. Patients who leave the clinic smiling, feeling stronger and more confident in themselves physically and mentally is fantastic.
Amber: It’s pretty rewarding to have someone walk through the doors at the start of class feeling stiff/exhausted/in pain & totally transform that through movement!
How do you MOVE THROUGH LIFE?
Nat: I engage in a variety of activities throughout the week, at home or the gym. These include regular walks, strength sessions at the gym, Pilates and netball. I also enjoy completing some meditation and mobility exercises at home, even if it’s only for 10 minutes. Every movement counts!
Amber: I find a combination of Pilates and Hiking the perfect fit for me to stay active, move well & connect with nature.
