Why See An Osteopath?

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopaths are primary allied health practitioners who provide manual treatment. We are highly skilled in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal complaints of the entire body. Osteopathy considers all structures of the body as a whole and recognises the important link between the structure of the body and how it functions.

What to expect in an Osteopathic treatment?

An osteopathic treatment will begin with a detailed history of your complaint. We use this information combined with the results from a thorough assessment and examination to formulate a provisional diagnosis and management plan for each client. Osteopaths are able to identify possible underlying causative factors which enables us to treat the cause, not just the symptom. This encourages long-term positive treatment outcomes.

Osteopaths learn a wide range of techniques which allows us to formulate a treatment appropriate for each client depending on the type of injury. A treatment may include massage and stretching of muscles as well as mobilisation techniques to particular joints. At Beyond our practitioners have a major focus on helping you to MOVE THROUGH LIFE! We provide a personalised take home management plan which includes exercises and stretches to help you manage your injury and reduce the risk of re-injury.

What do Osteopaths treat?

We are able to treat musculoskeletal complaints or injuries of the whole body – from your neck down to your toes. At Beyond we have Osteopaths who are specialised in managing a wide range of conditions. The five most common reasons people have an Osteopathic appointment at Beyond are:

  1. Back pain
  2. Neck pain
  3. Sports injuries
  4. Occupational and posture-related injuries
  5. Pre and postnatal care

What qualifications does an Osteopath have?

Australian Osteopaths are registered primary allied health professionals who have completed a minimum of five years of training and study at University, holding either a double Bachelors or Masters qualification. The university course involves in-depth study of pathology, physiology, anatomy, general medical diagnosis and osteopathic techniques.

What continued training do Osteopaths complete?

We continue to learn, maintain and develop our skills and knowledge once qualified. There is a minimum requirement of continued professional development we must complete each year to stay registered as an Osteopath in Australia.

In addition to our practitioners attending CPD courses throughout the year, Beyond runs fortnightly case conferences where we are able to further our skills and knowledge as a team across our three clinics.
