Beyond Funday Friday: A Celebration of Clinical Excellence, Team Culture and Shared Care in Action

July 14, 20255 min read

At Beyond, our commitment to redefining modern healthcare goes far beyond the treatment room. On Friday, 4 July 2025, our entire team came together for a memorable Team Day — our “Funday Friday” — an energising blend of learning, connection, clinical discussion, and celebration.

It was a timely reunion, with four months having passed since our last all-team gathering. As always, the day reflected who we are: a team dedicated to clinical excellence, a great client experience, and a culture that thrives on collaboration, learning, and a lot offun.

Starting Strong: Reflecting on Our Mission

The day opened with an inspiring “Around the Grounds” presentation by Shane, revisiting our winning aspiration: to redefine the modern healthcare experience while empowering our team and community to Move Through Life.

Key achievements and future directions were shared, including:

  • Expanding clinical serviceswith initiatives like Clinical Strength and Reformer Pilates.

  • Enhanced use of technology, with new VALD systems, ultrasounds, and Lyngo AI to improve client access and insights.

  • A deep commitment to training and development, including profession-specific PD and a growing Surgeon, Sports Doctor & Allied Health Series.

  • Refined client experiencethrough 24/7 AI support, updated management plans, and stronger community ties.

What stood out most was how much of this progress has come from within — from our people — showcasing the strength of our culture and shared purpose.

The Power of Clinical Communication: Keynote and Case Study

One of the highlights of the day was a thoughtful keynote by Psychologist Kate Andison, exploring the psychology of change. Kate unpacked the complex factors that influence client behaviour, from emotional barriers to cognitive biases, and offered practical tools for clinicians to enhance communication and foster engagement.

This seamlessly set the stage for our featured case study — a rich, collaborative deep-dive into a real client journey that showcased not just clinical reasoning, but the power of shared care.

Case Study: Jessica – More Than a Tendon

Jessica, a 40-year-old lawyer, working mum of two, came to Beyond with a 12-month history of proximal hamstring tendinopathy. Her pain — near the left sit bone — flared up during netball, running, and even prolonged sitting.

While Jessica had seen multiple clinicians in the past, she hadn’t found lasting relief. She was diligent, motivated, and physically active, but frustrated by a lack of progress and the sense that “her glutes just wouldn’t switch on.”

But as this case study illustrated, Jessica’s pain wasn’t just about a tendon.

Her history revealed a complex clinical picture: flat feet, outdated orthotics, intermittent stress incontinence, disrupted sleep due to young children and work travel, a history of ulcerative colitis and Raynaud’s, and a high-pressure job that left little time for recovery. Add to this a strong but often self-critical mindset — and it became clear this wasn’t a simple rehab program.

Key Clinical Considerations

  • Biomechanics: Shortened stride on the left, trunk sway, reduced glute activation, poor lumbopelvic control, and altered bridge and squat mechanics.

  • Systemic Factors: Chronic stress, disrupted sleep, and inflammatory conditions added complexity.

  • Neurophysiological Influences: A central sensitivity component was suspected, and appropriate outcome measures like the DASS and CSI were planned.

  • Functional Goals: Pain-free netball, running tolerance, and being able to sit comfortably were clearly defined to align rehab with her lifestyle.

What unfolded was a shared care model that reflected the best of what Beyond offers — coordinated, multidisciplinary, and client-centred care.

Shared Care in Action

Jessica’s plan was co-managed by a collaborative team including:

  • Women’s & Pelvic Health Physiotherapy(Libby) – assessing pelvic floor function and intra-abdominal pressure

  • Podiatry(Craig) – addressing foot biomechanics and orthotic review

  • Physiotherapy(Gemma) – guiding strength and rehab programming

  • Myotherapy(Will) – supporting with soft tissue work and neuromuscular release

  • Clinical Pilates and strength-based rehab– future proofing her return to sport and daily life

Structured over an 18-month timeline, her program included clear phases: education and load management early on, progressive rehab with strength and function markers, and finally, ongoing maintenance to support her long-term physical and mental health.

Jessica’s journey wasn’t just about resolving pain. It was about enabling her to stay active, manage the demands of life, and regain a sense of control over her body and health.

Clinical Rotations: Skills, Insights, and Interdisciplinary Excellence

The case study came to life during our afternoon clinical rotations, where teams moved through five practical sessions:

  1. WMPH: The role of pelvic floor rehab postnatally and its impact on core control- utilising the Femfit. Plus insights into the postnatal journey.

  2. Podiatry: Gait analysis, orthotic review and understanding how foot mechanics affect proximal issues.

  3. VALD: Interpreting force plate and bridge data for functional decision-making.

  4. Rehab Planning: Load management and tailoring programs to real-life context.

  5. Manual Therapy: The three most effective techniques for hamstring tendinopathies.

These rotations weren’t just demonstrations — they were hands-on learning experiences, full of questions, discussion, and shared problem-solving. They embodied our belief that excellence comes from curiosity, collaboration, and continual growth.

Celebrating Our People

We wrapped up the day at The Gertrude with afternoon tea, drinks, and of course — Christmas in July festivities! There were awards, laughter, and surprise celebrations that reminded us just how special this team is.

Highlights included:

  • Long-standing milestones– from Cara’s 9 years, Sarah’s 10 years to Tessa’s incredible 15!

  • Emerging leaders– like Oscar, stepping into new leadership development pathways.

  • The Go Beyondies Awards, recognising team members who exemplify our values: We Go Beyond, We Are Good People, We Level Up, and We Have Fun. Well done Richard and Rohan!

These moments reflect something essential about Beyond — that our culture of excellence is inseparable from our culture of care. For each other, for our clients, and for our community.

Looking Ahead

Funday Friday reminded us that modern healthcare isn’t just about knowledge or technique. It’s about the people who deliver it — and the environment they thrive in.

Whether it’s investing in new technology, enhancing our professional development, refining our client care, or having a laugh over Christmas Jumpers and Helium Christmas Penguin balloons in July, every part of this day echoed our mission:

To help our clients, our colleagues, and our team Move Through Life.
