FAQs

Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist in Botany?

No referral is needed to book a private physiotherapy appointment at our Botany clinic on Botany Road. You can book online or call us directly. A GP referral is only required if you wish to access Medicare's Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan — your GP would arrange this before your first appointment. We also accept WorkCover, DVA and TAC without a referral.

What conditions do physiotherapists assess and treat at the Botany clinic?

Our Botany physiotherapists regularly see clients with musculoskeletal conditions including back and neck pain, sports injuries, post-surgical rehabilitation, hip and knee conditions, tendinopathies, and pregnancy-related pain. We also have pelvic health physiotherapy at this location for women's and men's health concerns.

How many physiotherapy sessions will I need?

This depends on your condition, how long you've had it, your personal goals and how you respond to treatment. At your initial appointment in Botany, your physiotherapist will give you an honest estimate of what to expect and how frequently you'll need to attend. Acute injuries often resolve in a small number of sessions; chronic or complex conditions may benefit from a longer-term program.

Can a physiotherapist help with pain I have had for a long time?

Yes, absolutely. Our Botany team has experience managing persistent and chronic pain, and takes a whole-person approach that considers physical, psychological and lifestyle factors. We will not just treat the symptom — we work to understand what is driving your pain and build a realistic plan around your life.

Is physiotherapy appropriate during pregnancy?

Yes. Our Botany clinic includes a women's health physiotherapist with experience in pregnancy-related conditions including pelvic girdle pain, low back pain, and hip discomfort. If you are pregnant or recently postpartum, please mention this when booking so we can match you with the right practitioner.

Can I claim physiotherapy through Medicare?

Medicare does not cover standard physiotherapy consultations. However, if you have a chronic condition and are referred by your GP under an Enhanced Primary Care (Chronic Disease Management) plan, you may be eligible for Medicare rebates on up to five allied health sessions per calendar year. This must be arranged by your GP before your appointment at our Botany clinic.

What is the difference between my initial and follow-up appointments?

Your initial appointment at our Botany clinic runs for 60 minutes and covers a thorough assessment, hands-on treatment and the development of your personalised management plan. Follow-up appointments are 30 minutes and focus on reviewing your progress, advancing your treatment and refining your exercise program as you improve.

What should I bring to my first physiotherapy appointment?

Please bring any relevant imaging (X-ray, MRI, ultrasound), referral letters from your GP or specialist, your Medicare and health fund cards, and any WorkCover or TAC claim numbers if applicable. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows your physiotherapist to assess the area of concern.

Do you offer physiotherapy for children and adolescents at Botany?

Yes, we see clients of all ages at our Botany clinic. If you are booking for a child or teenager, please let us know at the time of booking so we can allocate the right practitioner for your young person's needs.

Where is the Move Beyond Botany clinic located, and is there parking?

The clinic is also accessible from several bus routes running along Botany Road, and is approximately a 15-minute walk from Mascot train station on the T8 line.

How do I know if I am seeing the right practitioner?

Yes, we see clients of all ages. Please let us know when booking that you are booking for a child or adolescent so we can match them with the most suitable practitioner at our Chatswood clinic.

Do you offer Onero bone health classes at Botany?

Yes, our Botany clinic offers Onero — an evidence-based exercise program designed to improve bone strength and reduce fracture risk in people with osteopenia or osteoporosis. Classes are led by our Exercise Physiologist. Speak to the team or visit our Onero page to find out more.
