Podiatry in Modbury

Our podiatry team at Move Beyond Modbury provides expert foot and ankle care for people of all ages and activity levels. Whether you are dealing with heel pain that has been building for months, an ingrown toenail that needs sorting, a running injury that keeps coming back, or a child with a gait concern that has been worrying you, our podiatrists are here to help.

We go well beyond the basics. While traditional podiatry focuses on nails, corns, and calluses, our Modbury team brings a much broader clinical toolkit including shockwave therapy, dry needling, 3D foot pressure analysis, custom orthotics, gait retraining, and a range of procedures for nail conditions. We combine hands-on treatment with a thorough understanding of how the foot and lower limb works under load, so you get care that actually resolves the problem.

We are proud to have two Titled Australian Podiatrists of the Year in our team. Joe Keain was awarded this distinction in both 2019 and 2022, which is a recognition given to podiatrists who demonstrate exceptional clinical knowledge, leadership, and contribution to the profession. It is the standard of care our whole Modbury team works to.

We work closely with our physiotherapy team at the same clinic, so if your condition has a broader musculoskeletal component, we can bring in the right person without you having to start from scratch somewhere else.

Podiatry services available at Modbury

General Podiatry

From nail and skin care to corns, calluses, and general foot health, our podiatrists provide comprehensive day-to-day foot care for people of all ages.

Custom Foot Orthotics

Our podiatrists use 3D foot pressure analysis and gait assessment to prescribe and fit custom orthotics designed for your specific foot mechanics and goals. Whether you are managing pain, recovering from injury, or looking to improve your running efficiency, we match the orthotic to what your foot actually needs.

3D Foot Pressure Analysis

Using advanced pressure plate and Zebris treadmill technology, we capture a detailed picture of how load is distributed across your foot with every step. This data informs orthotic prescription, footwear advice, and technique coaching.

Shockwave Therapy

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy is an evidence-based treatment for chronic tendon and soft tissue conditions including plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, and tibialis posterior pain. It works by stimulating the body's natural healing response in tissue that has become slow to recover.

Children's Podiatry

Growing feet need specialist attention. We assess and treat a range of paediatric conditions including growing pains (Sever's disease), flat feet, in-toeing, out-toeing, and gait concerns. We work with children in a relaxed and friendly environment, and with their families to support healthy foot development.

Ingrown Nail Procedures

Ingrown toenails are painful and often recurring. Our podiatrists offer both conservative management and minor surgical procedures (partial nail avulsion) to resolve the problem permanently. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and most patients return to normal activity within a day or two.

PACT Fungal Nail Treatment

PACT (Photodynamic Antimicrobial Therapy) is a safe, effective, and chemical-free treatment for fungal nail infections. It uses a photosensitising gel activated by a specific light wavelength to destroy the fungal organism without damaging surrounding tissue.

Dry Needling

Our podiatrists are trained in dry needling for the foot and lower leg, targeting trigger points in muscles contributing to plantar fasciitis, Achilles pain, calf tightness, and shin splints.

Foot Mobilisation Therapy

Gentle, targeted manipulation of the joints of the foot and ankle to improve range of motion, reduce stiffness, and restore normal movement patterns. Particularly useful for people with chronic foot pain, stiff joints, or postural foot dysfunction.

Running Assessment

Using our Zebris treadmill with 7,000 pressure sensors, we assess your running biomechanics from foot strike through to hip and trunk movement, identifying the factors driving injury or inefficiency. See our dedicated Running Assessment page for full details.

Gait Analysis

A thorough assessment of how you walk, using pressure plate technology and video analysis to identify abnormal patterns contributing to pain in the feet, ankles, knees, hips, or lower back.

Moon Boot Fittings

We fit and supply moon boots (CAM walkers) for a range of conditions including stress fractures, severe sprains, and post-surgical offloading. Our podiatrists will advise on the right boot for your situation and how to use it correctly.

Footwear Advice

The wrong footwear is one of the most common contributors to foot and lower limb pain. Our podiatrists provide specific, practical footwear recommendations based on your foot type, activities, and any existing conditions.

Diabetes Assessments

People living with diabetes are at increased risk of foot complications. We provide comprehensive diabetic foot assessments covering circulation, sensation, skin integrity, and nail health, and work with your GP and endocrinologist to reduce your risk of serious foot problems.

Modbury Physiotherapy FAQs

Do I need a referral to see a podiatrist in Modbury?

No referral is needed. You can book directly with our Modbury podiatry team online or by phone. A referral is only required if you want to access Medicare rebates through a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan, which your GP arranges. For private health insurance, DVA, Return to Work SA, and NDIS, no referral is needed to get started.

What is the difference between a podiatrist and a physiotherapist for foot and ankle pain?

Both podiatrists and physiotherapists treat foot and ankle conditions, but they approach it from different angles. Podiatrists specialise in the foot and lower limb, with additional expertise in skin and nail conditions, orthotic prescription, footwear assessment, and conditions like diabetes and circulation. Physiotherapists tend to focus more broadly on musculoskeletal injury, rehabilitation, and movement. At Move Beyond, our podiatry and physio teams work alongside each other, so if your condition would benefit from input from both, we can make that connection easily.

What happens at my first podiatry appointment in Modbury?

Your initial appointment typically runs for 45 to 60 minutes. Your podiatrist will take a thorough history of your foot and ankle concern, your general health, your footwear, and your activity levels. They will then complete a hands-on physical assessment, which may include gait analysis, strength and flexibility testing, and a skin and nail assessment where relevant. At the end of the appointment, you will have a clear diagnosis or explanation of the problem and a management plan that tells you exactly what the next steps are.

What conditions do podiatrists treat?

Our Modbury podiatry team treats a wide range of conditions including heel pain and plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, ingrown toenails, fungal nail infections, corns and calluses, flat feet and high arches, stress fractures, sports injuries of the foot and lower leg, diabetic foot conditions, plantar warts, children's foot conditions, and more. If you are not sure whether your condition is something we can help with, give us a call and we will let you know.

What is an Endorsed Podiatrist?

An Endorsed Podiatrist is a podiatrist who has completed additional post-graduate qualifications and is endorsed by AHPRA to administer scheduled medicines, including local anaesthetics. This allows them to perform procedures such as partial nail avulsions for ingrown toenails under local anaesthetic, providing a more comfortable and effective treatment experience. Our team includes endorsed podiatrists at all three SA clinics.

Do you offer custom orthotics?

Yes. Our Modbury podiatrists prescribe and fit custom foot orthotics based on a thorough assessment of your foot mechanics, gait, and goals. We use 3D foot pressure analysis to inform our prescription, ensuring the orthotic is designed specifically for how your foot actually loads and moves. Off-the-shelf insoles are not the same as custom orthotics and are not suitable for everyone.

Can podiatry help with children's foot problems?

Yes. Our podiatrists have expertise in children's foot and lower limb conditions including Sever's disease (heel pain in growing children), flat feet, in-toeing and out-toeing, growing pains, and gait concerns. We work with children in a friendly and relaxed way, and we take the time to explain everything to both the child and their parents. If you have any concerns about how your child is walking or developing, it is worth having them assessed.

What is shockwave therapy and can it help my foot pain?

Shockwave therapy (extracorporeal shockwave therapy) is an evidence-based treatment for chronic tendon and soft tissue conditions. It delivers focused acoustic waves to the affected tissue, stimulating the body's natural healing response in areas that have become slow to recover. It is commonly used for plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, and tibialis posterior pain, particularly in cases that have not responded well to other treatments. Most patients have a series of three to six sessions.

What is PACT fungal nail treatment?

PACT (Photodynamic Antimicrobial Therapy) is a safe, effective treatment for fungal nail infections that uses a photosensitising gel activated by a specific light wavelength to destroy the fungal organism. It is chemical-free and does not damage surrounding tissue. It is a good option for people who prefer to avoid oral antifungal medications or who have not responded to topical treatments.

Can I use private health insurance for podiatry at Move Beyond?

Yes. Most private health funds with extras cover include podiatry. You can claim on the day using our on-site HICAPS terminal. Please note that our SA clinics are not preferred providers for any health fund, which means our fees are not set or discounted by insurers. You will still receive your normal extras rebate and pay any applicable gap. Our fee structure reflects the quality and time our podiatrists bring to every appointment.

Do you accept DVA and Return to Work SA for podiatry at Modbury?

Yes. We accept DVA (Department of Veterans Affairs) and Return to Work SA (formerly WorkCover SA) claims for podiatry. Please call us before your first appointment to arrange your claim and bring all relevant paperwork with you on the day.

Do you accept DVA and Return to Work SA for podiatry at Modbury?

Yes. We provide podiatry services to NDIS participants who are plan-managed or self-managed. We do not currently accept agency-managed plans. Please contact our Modbury team before booking so we can confirm your funding and set up your file correctly.

What does podiatry cost at Move Beyond Modbury?

We accept private health insurance (HICAPS on-site, claim on the day), Medicare CDM plans (gap applies, we do not bulk bill), DVA, Return to Work SA, and NDIS (plan-managed and self-managed). We are a cashless practice, payment via Visa or Mastercard. For our most up-to-date fee schedule, please call the clinic on (08) 7226 9901 .
