Exercise Physiology in Kensington

Our Exercise Physiologists at Move Beyond Kensington are university-qualified, accredited allied health practitioners who use exercise as medicine. Where a physio or osteo is often your first stop after an injury, an Exercise Physiologist (EP) is usually the right fit when you're managing an ongoing condition, returning to activity after illness or surgery, or want a longer-term, structured approach to your health.

Your EP will assess your health history, current strength and capacity, and what you actually want to achieve, then build a program around it. That might mean regular sessions here at Kensington, a gym-based program you run largely on your own with check-ins, or a mix of both.

We work closely with your GP, surgeon, physiotherapist or osteopath so your exercise program supports the rest of your care rather than sitting separately from it.

FAQs

What makes Onero different from general strength training?

No referral is needed to book directly. A referral is only required if you want to claim Medicare rebates through a Chronic Disease Management plan, which your GP arranges if you have a chronic condition present for six months or more.

Is Onero safe if I already have osteoporosis or a history of fractures?

An Accredited Exercise Physiologist completes a four year university degree and is accredited by Exercise & Sports Science Australia. Unlike a personal trainer, an AEP is trained to work clinically with injury, chronic disease and complex health conditions, and can access Medicare, NDIS, DVA and WorkCover funding.

Does NDIS cover Exercise Physiology at Kensington?

Yes, Exercise Physiology is a funded support under NDIS, typically under Capacity Building. We work with plan-managed and self-managed participants. Please note we don't currently take on agency-managed clients.

Can I claim Exercise Physiology through private health insurance?

Most extras policies include Exercise Physiology. We have HICAPS on site so you can claim on the day.

What happens at my first Exercise Physiology appointment?

A thorough assessment of your health history, current capacity and goals, usually around 60 minutes, followed by a personalised program you'll leave with a clear understanding of.

How is Exercise Physiology different from Clinical Pilates or Clinical Strength?

Exercise Physiology sessions are typically one-on-one and tailored specifically to your health condition or goals. Clinical Pilates and Clinical Strength are small group classes, still built around an initial individual assessment, that suit people ready to train in a supervised group setting.

Can Exercise Physiology help with mental health?

Yes. There's strong evidence for structured exercise as part of managing anxiety, depression and stress. If you have a GP Mental Health Care Plan, ask our team whether you're eligible for rebates in this context.

Where is the Kensington clinic and how do I get there?

We're at 3/402-444 Macaulay Road, Kensington, a 4 minute walk from Kensington Station (Craigieburn and Williamstown lines), with bus routes 402 and 404 stopping directly on Macaulay Road.
