Clinical Pilates in Kensington

Clinical Pilates at Move Beyond Kensington is led by qualified allied health practitioners, not fitness instructors, which is what separates it from a regular studio Pilates class. Every program starts with an individual clinical assessment, so what you're doing in class is built around your body, your injury history and what you're actually trying to achieve, whether that's better core stability, less pain, or simply moving with more confidence.

Our Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists run small group classes in our light-filled Kensington movement studio, using Pilates-based equipment and mat work to deliver on the goals you set together at your assessment.

Before joining classes, you'll complete an initial one-on-one assessment. Depending on what that shows, you may need one or two individual sessions with your practitioner before moving into the small group setting. We recommend weekly attendance to see genuine progress.

FAQs

What's the difference between Clinical Pilates and regular Pilates?

Clinical Pilates is designed and supervised by qualified allied health practitioners, with every program built from an individual clinical assessment. Regular studio Pilates follows a general class format without that clinical starting point.

Do I need a referral to start Clinical Pilates in Kensington?

No, you can book directly. A referral is only needed for Medicare rebates under a Chronic Disease Management plan.

What happens at my Clinical Pilates assessment?

A one-on-one session, usually 60 minutes, reviewing your health history, goals and movement patterns, so your practitioner can build a program specific to you before you join any classes.

How small are the Kensington classes?

Classes are kept small so your practitioner can properly supervise and adjust each person's exercises during the session.

What equipment do you use?

Our Kensington studio uses reformer and mat-based Pilates equipment, with your practitioner determining what's appropriate based on your assessment.

Is Clinical Pilates suitable if I'm pregnant or have had a baby recently?

Yes. We adapt programs through pregnancy and the postnatal period, from pelvic girdle pain to rebuilding core strength after birth. Let us know when booking so we can match you with the right practitioner.

What should I wear?

Comfortable, form-fitting athletic wear (loose clothing can catch in reformer springs), and grip socks, which we can sell you on site if needed. No shoes are worn in the studio.

Is Clinical Pilates covered by private health insurance?

Most extras policies covering physiotherapy or exercise physiology include Clinical Pilates. HICAPS is available on site to claim on the day.
