Individuals with Osteoporosis or Osteopenia: Improve bone density, and strength & reduce the chance of falls.
Weights for wellbeing: This class is a great way to learn to lift weights in a small group setting under the guidance of an allied health practitioner.
These are just a few examples. If you’re wondering if Onero is for you, book an appointment, and our practitioners will assess and assist you in making the best movement choice for your health goals.
What is involved if you take part in the Onero™ Program
The Onero™ Program begins with a comprehensive 60-minute assessment conducted by a qualified Onero™-trained allied health professional, such as an Exercise Physiologist or Physiotherapist.
After your initial assessment, you will participate in 2 x 60-minute classes per week. These classes are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of up to six participants, to ensure that each session is fully supervised and personalised. Our Onero™-trained professionals closely monitor your progress, providing expert guidance and adjusting exercises as needed.
The program is designed to span a 12-month period, with a structured progression in both the intensity and complexity of exercises as your strength, balance, and confidence improve. This gradual increase helps optimise your bone health and overall physical function.
You can find our timetable on our main location page here - we often add new classes, if you can't find a time that suits you please feel free to call.

FAQs
Onero™ is a clinically researched, high-intensity resistance and impact training program specifically designed to improve bone density and reduce fracture risk. Unlike general strength training, Onero™ follows a structured protocol,, developed through the University of Newcastle's research into osteoporosis management, using specific loading patterns proven to stimulate bone growth. It's delivered only by Onero™-accredited Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists, like our team in Blackburn.
Yes, Onero™ was specifically designed for people with osteoporosis, osteopenia, or a history of fragility fractures. Every participant completes a comprehensive assessment before starting, and your program is tailored to your bone density results, fracture history, and current strength and balance levels. Sessions are small and closely supervised, so exercises can be modified in real time as needed.
While not always required to begin, a recent DEXA scan helps your Blackburn practitioner tailor your program more precisely to your bone health needs. If you haven't had one recently, we can discuss this with you at your initial assessment and, if appropriate, suggest you speak with your GP about a referral.
Onero™ is a 12-month program, reflecting the time genuinely required for measurable improvements in bone density and strength. Most participants notice improvements in strength, balance, and confidence well before the 12-month mark, with bone density changes typically assessed via follow-up DEXA scans at the end of the program.
Onero™ is suitable for anyone at risk of poor bone health, including men. While osteoporosis is more commonly discussed in relation to post-menopausal women, men can and do develop osteoporosis and osteopenia, particularly with risk factors like long-term corticosteroid use, smoking, low body weight, or family history.
Medicare rebates may be available under a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan, which must be arranged by your GP before starting. DVA, TAC, and WorkCover are also accepted where applicable. Most private health funds with extras cover include Exercise Physiology and Physiotherapy services, and you can claim on the day using our on-site HICAPS terminal. Contact our Blackburn team for current program pricing.
Wear comfortable, supportive athletic clothing and closed, supportive shoes suitable for resistance and impact-based exercise. If you have a recent DEXA scan, GP referral, or relevant medical history, please bring these along to your initial assessment.
Yes, Onero™ is designed to meet you where you're at. Your program begins with a thorough assessment of your current strength, balance, and mobility, and progresses gradually in intensity as your confidence and capacity improve. Many of our Blackburn participants begin the program with little to no recent exercise history.
Onero™ follows a specific, evidence-based protocol focused on bone loading and fracture risk reduction, rather than general strength, mobility, or rehabilitation goals. If bone health isn't your primary concern, our Blackburn team can guide you toward Clinical Pilates, Clinical Strength, or general Exercise Physiology instead, and can help you decide which is the right fit at your initial consult.
Yes, many of our clients combine Onero™ with other services such as physiotherapy or remedial massage as part of a broader care plan. Let your Blackburn practitioner know what else you're doing so your program can be coordinated appropriately.
